Story-telling Techniques - Part 1

Here is a great technique I often use called “Sliding Doors". Based on the movie with the same name (starring Gwynneth Paltrow) it starts from the principle that every story can have multiple endings.
Here is how it works : First you tell a story. Just before the end, you let your story “fork” into two different directions, thus producing 2 distinct endings. After allowing your students to think about the 2 endings, they can choose which ending they like better. You can do this by a raise of hands, or by asking them to go to a different part of the classroom.
Then those who liked ending nr. 1 should try to convince the other group why their ending is better. Repeat the same procedure with group 2.
Alternatively, you can ask students to provide you with a third, alternative ending.
