it is absolutely not true, In india hologram are used by more than 8 states excise departments to stop counterfeiting and piracy. The security of a hologram is depend on the manufacturing company and the brand owner. A hologram is can't be duplicate. May be there is a possibility of making the look-a-like hologram. But even in the 21st century when human clone is there, duplicates of film star are there, but you can't a duplicate with the original. Holograms are still the most effective and world widely used device to stop counterfeiting.

Interesting to read your comment.

Maybe it is not so easy to make an exact copy of an hologram, but how does a customer know that the hologram he sees, isn't a fake one? I mean, to me these holograms look all the same. So if thieves put a logo of windows in a hologram, customers will believe they are bying a genuine programme, no ?

It is possible to write an article explaining why locks are useless as any lock can be picked. It can be argued that it is foolish to authenticate a cheque by verifying the signature, as it is possible to copy the signature.
Security is about increasing barrier and security holograms do that role very well.
If somebody is arguing that the end consumer cannot identify features in a hologram, it shows that he has not understood how authentication works. Everyone who uses a currency note need not understand all the security features in it.
